High volume lifting needs during a critical shutdown

At Huntsman, Hoist International oversees the issue and return of lifting equipment via a staffed container using rental software and scanners ensuring safe, efficient handling in a high risk petrochemical environment.

The challenge

During a planned shutdown at Huntsman's petrochemical plant in Rotterdam, the demand for lifting equipment increased significantly. Numerous subcontractors required access to certified hoisting and lifting gear, with each tool needing to be tracked by both company and individual user. In such a high risk industrial environment, accuracy, traceability, and safety are essential, not only for operational efficiency, but also for cost control and compliance with strict plant safety protocols

The vision

Hoist International aimed to provide Huntsman with an on-site solution that ensured real-time tracking, safe handling, and accurate cost allocation of lifting equipment. The goal was to minimize downtime, simplify logistics, and eliminate manual processes during one of the most intense operational periods for the plant. The solution had to be scalable, transparent, and fully compliant with the high safety standards of a petrochemical environment.

The solution

Hoist International deployed a dedicated on-site equipment container, fully equipped to issue and return lifting tools. Every item was marked with a unique rental ID, and the entire process was managed through customized rental software with barcode scanning.

Equipment were issued not only by subcontractor, but also registered to individual workers providing full traceability at all times. Daily digital reports gave Huntsman full visibility into which equipment was in use, by whom, and for how long. This ensured accurate cost allocation and prevented loss or misuse of materials.

The result

The containerized solution from Hoist International streamlined the entire equipment flow during the shutdown. With automated tracking and daily reporting, unnecessary rentals were avoided, usage was optimized, and costs were significantly reduced.

By combining smart software, robust logistics, and on site expertise, Hoist International enabled safe and efficient execution of the shutdown demonstrating how digitalized equipment management can drive real value, even in the most complex industrial environments.
